Ronny
felt
like
a
total
heel.
“Leslie,
I
know
this
is
going
to
sound
stupid,
but
I
don’t
know
what
we’re
doing
together,
anymore.”
Leslie
managed
to
look
even
more
miserable.
“What
is
that
supposed
to
mean,
Ronny?
We’re
getting
an
education,
hanging
out,
making
a
future
for
ourselves…
What
else
are
you
looking
for?”
He
shrugged,
“Why
do
I
have
to
be
looking
for
something?
I’m
just
trying
to
get
through
school,
and
have
some
fun
along
the
way.
We’re
way
too
young
to
worry
about
families
and
mortgages
right
now.
Don’t
you
get
it?”
She
jumped
to
her
feet
and
started
pacing
nervously.
When
she
started
talking,
it
seemed
almost
like
she
was
talking
to
herself.
“No,
I
don’t
‘get
it.’
You
can‘t
just
expect
me
to
throw
away
everything
I‘ve
ever
hoped
for.
It
isn’t
that
simple.
What
will
it
cost
me
to
put
aside
my
dreams
for
a
few
nights
of
‘fun?’
What
if,
by
doing
that,
I
miss
my
chance
at
happiness?”
Ronny
put
his
arms
around
her
to
calm
her,
“What
if
they’re
not
your
dreams,
Leslie?
Did
you
ever
wonder
why
you
want
those
things?
Will
they
really
make
you
happy?”
A
tear
rolled
down
her
cheek
as
she
gazed
inward,
fighting
an
urge
to
surrender.
He
could
see
her
struggling,
and
kissed
her
gently
on
the
forehead,
wanting
to
make
it
easier
for
her.
She
looked
up
at
him
with
a
question
in
her
eyes.
“So
what
happens
with
us,
Ronny?
If
I
do
find
another
dream,
what
if
you’re
not
in
it?”
He
laughed.
“That’s
the
point,
Les.
Let’s
just
be.”
She
gripped
his
neck
tightly
and
pressed
her
body
against
his.
“I
want
to,
I
really
do,
but
I’m
afraid.”
He
knew
where
she
was
taking
this,
and
he
really
wasn’t
a
pig,
but
honestly,
he
was
more
afraid
of
what
she
would
do
if
he
rejected
her.
He
sat
on
a
blanket
and
pulled
her
gently
into
his
lap.
“There’s
nothing
to
be
afraid
of.
It
isn’t
the
end
of
the
road,
it’s
the
car.
All
you
have
to
do
is
ride.”
She smiled and tangled her fingers in his hair. “As long as you’re driving…”
